Course syllabus

Stresses and deformations. Normal and tangential stresses and strains. Hooke's law. Material properties. Basic types of stress. Axial stress. Force-elongation relationship. Statically determined problems. Statically indeterminate problems. Effect of temperature. Stresses in the oblique section. Twisting. Stresses and deformations of a rod with a circular cross section. Statically determined problems. Statically indeterminate problems. Bending. Moments of inertia of plane sections. Pure bending. Calculation of stress due to bending moments and transfer forces. Deflections of simpler beams. Flat voltage condition and application. Principal and maximum shear stresses. Mohr's circle of stress. Voltage transformation. Courts under pressure. Beams. Complex voltage state.  Hypotheses about material breakdown. Tough materials. Brittle materials.
