## Course syllabus

**Stresses and deformations**. Normal and tangential stresses and strains. Hooke's law. Material properties. Basic types of stress.

**Axial stress.**Force-elongation relationship. Statically determined problems. Statically indeterminate problems. Effect of temperature. Stresses in the oblique section.

**Twisting.**Stresses and deformations of a rod with a circular cross section. Statically determined problems. Statically indeterminate problems.

**Bending**. Moments of inertia of plane sections. Pure bending. Calculation of stress due to bending moments and transfer forces. Deflections of simpler beams.

**Flat voltage condition and application.**Principal and maximum shear stresses. Mohr's circle of stress. Voltage transformation. Courts under pressure. Beams. Complex voltage state.

**Hypotheses about material breakdown.**Tough materials. Brittle materials.
